The Torrevejense Symphony Orchestra under the baton of maestro José Francisco Sánchez, traditionally celebrates the New Year – Kings with two festive concerts, which take place in the symphony hall of the impressive International Auditorium. As in previous years, these musical events belong, to the truly extraordinary in all aspects; OST delights with the precious melodies – the most beautiful pearls of popular classical music, which always enjoy the great appreciation of the listeners and, of course, its high level of execution offers joy, thus forming a true atmosphere of festivity.
The sonority of the Prelude of the Zarzuela "El Patinillo" by G. Giménez began the concert, once introducing among the audience an atmosphere of relaxation, which was continued with the performance of the Overture "Morning, Afternoon and Night in Vienna" by F. Von Suppé, with the beautifully interpreted, reflective and nostalgic only of the first cellist Alicia Avilés. The Overture was dedicated to the memory of the victims of Covid 19. The two pieces of J. Strauss II: "The Dragonfly" and "Persian March" reflected the energy and dedication of the orchestra and maestro J.F. Sánchez in each sentence and in the mixture of the openly opposite timbres that managed to merge to obtain a fabulous sonority.
Each time the musicians of the OST demonstrate their quality, both together and in the parts of soloists. Thanks to the presence of the harpist Sara Esturillo, we have been able to enjoy excellent versions of the famous fragments of the Ballet "Nutcracker" by P. Tchaikovsky – "Waltz of flowers" and "Step to Two", where the sounds of the harp looked with subtlety, sweetness and elegance.
Much joy provoked the Prelude to the zarzuela "Los Arrastraos" by F. Chueca, where J.F. Sánchez and the orchestra impressed with their maximum sensitivity and a varied palette of refined expressions. Bravo the first trumpeter Miguel Ángel Lozano. Maestro Sánchez belongs to the artists, of those who know how to control the sound of the orchestra, creating a set of different sonorities, while offering precise realization of the indications in the scores.
During the excellent interpretation of J's piece. Strauss II, entitled "Under the Thunder and Lightning", the performers have aroused an honest admiration among the audience. Similar was the reception of the polka-fast "Parlanchines", and the French polka "In the forest of Krapfen", the two pieces of Josef Strauss. Also the fragment "Pizzicato" from the ballet "Sylvia" by L. Delibes, delighted those present.
Throughout the concert the Symphony and the conductor J.F. Sánchez were excellent collaborators, offering brilliant interpretive virtues in a special way, with an always elegant balance. With a fabulous version of J.'s "Blue Danube" Waltz. Strauss concluded the high-voltage evening, in which the performers emitted ingredients of refreshing humor with a delicious style, so typical in Viennese music.
The audience present rewarded a wonderful presentation of the OST with a thunderous applause, receiving in return two encores of thanks; "Sports Polka" – a funny form of musical joke, as well as the famous "Radetzky March" with the dynamic participation of the palms of the public.
In conclusion; Beautiful and festive musical opening of the Year 2021, full of vigor, energy and charisma. A magical night of deeply musical and deeply human emotions.
PD. It is a pity that due to the pandemic situation, the International Auditorium hall has not been able to accommodate the usual amount of public, but in any case, the gratitude deserves direction of the Symphony Orchestra with its president Pelayo Mellado and maestro José Francisco Sánchez at the front, for being "responsible" for organizing with such success, and the eleventh time these beautiful concerts, by many – rightly – considered as the most important of the season.
